The Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional announced the creation of the Comitê Permanente para Preservação do Patrimônio Cultural LGBTQIA+ (COPLGBT+). According to the news item published by Iphan on October 28, the ordinance was published on October 23, 2026.
The committee will advise the Institute's units on analyses, processes and preservation policies related to the experiences, memories and cultural expressions of the LGBTQIA+ population. Its work also includes encouraging public participation in identifying and protecting these heritage assets.
The initiative follows a working group created in June 2025. The transition to a permanent committee aims to ensure continued work on this issue within the institution.
The news item also states that the application to register LGBTQIA+ Pride Parades as intangible cultural heritage was at the stage of providing additional documentation. An application under review does not amount to completed recognition.
