1. The possible paths
Adoption, assisted reproduction and co-parenting have different requirements, costs and timelines. Understanding all three helps you make a realistic choice.
In Brazil, same-sex couples can adopt and can register their children under the names of both mothers or both fathers.
2. School and documents
Bring the birth certificate with both names when enrolling and ask the school to accept “parent or guardian 1” and “parent or guardian 2” on its forms.
Talk to the school administration in advance: most conflicts arise from a lack of preparation, not bad faith.
